February 2010
For some, February has become synonymous to Valentines' or the Love month, while for those among us from the Chinese community, it is when the Year of the Golden Tiger begins, symbolizing power, passion and daring for the year at hand.
Equally significant for us in the Rotarian family is this special month as it is designated World Understanding Month in the Rotary calendar. The month also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on 23 February 1905, now recognized as World Understanding and Peace Day. For this momentous commemoration here in the Philippines, the Rotary Wheel and the End Polio Plus Poster will be beamed in the Big Globe of the Mall of Asia (MOA) on Feb 23, 2010.
World Understanding Month is a chance for every club to pause, plan and promote the Fourth Avenue of Service - Rotary's continued quest for goodwill, peace and understanding among peoples of the world.
As we in our respective clubs in D3850 plan programs for our weekly meetings and undertake special activities to emphasize "understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace." allow me to take this opportunity to remind each one of the District Governor's Ball to be hosted by RC Bacolod on Saturday, February 27, at L'Fisher Hotel.
Many clubs take the opportunity to launch an international community service activity or make contact with a Rotary club in another country. It is a good month to initiate a Rotary Friendship Exchange, a 3-H project or encourage support for PolioPlus and other Rotary Foundation programs.
Thank you my fellow Rotarians for doing your share in creating a climate of mutual understanding.
