Keeping it simple but significant is how our District Governor would define his style of doing things. For him, the most significant part of being a Rotarian is anchored in our motto: Service above Self, and guided by The Four Way Test. To sum this up in simple terms, Ronnie would often say, “Rotary is not about us; it’s about our community; it’s about our service to humanity.” He believes that the more we serve in Rotary, the more Rotary becomes our way of life. “And if we sprinkle that service with fellowships that lead to lifelong friendships,” Ronnie adds, “then, we are true Rotarians for life.”
Born in Bacolod City, our District Governor now resides in Iloilo after marrying Sanda Villanueva. They are blessed with 4 sons, Elijah (18 y.o.), Ethan (16 y.o.), Ewan (13 y.o.) & Emmett John (4 y.o.). Ronnie, together with Sanda, helps manage the family’s 41-year-old appliance, furniture and air condition business, NIG Marketing Corporation, now with 24 branches in Panay and Negros Islands.
Ronnie took his Elementary and High School education at La Salle Bacolod Integrated School. In 1989, he graduated at the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
He joined the Rotary Club of Iloilo South in October 1998. In June 2000, Ronnie became Club President under the RI Presidency of Frank Devlyn, with PDG Henz Reyes leading our District. In RY 2006-2007, PDG Toto Cua Locsin appointed Ronnie as his District Secretary and Awards Chair. While Ronnie has served Rotary in various capacities, his passion for taking pictures during Club and District events gained him Rotarian friends from all over. He has not missed a single District conference. He has also attended Rotary Zone Institutes and International Conventions. Believing in the Rotary Foundation, Ronnie became a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and is a member of the Paul Harris Society.
Outside of Rotary, Ronnie is also the current Vice Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter. He is also the Vice President of Medical Mission Matters Philippines (MMMP), a non-government organization aimed at providing free surgery to children and adults with cleft lip and cleft palate. Ronnie and Sanda are also vice chair and couple moderator of Educhild, a non-profit organization formed by parents to help other parents in the delicate task of parenting and rearing a family.
Building on our gains and successes, as well as lessons learned and opportunities discovered over the past Rotary Years, our District Governor believes that by working together as true Rotarians, District 3850 will be in an even greater force to do more good in our community and to humanity.
